Hartlepool Youth Choir

All About Us

Who we are...

The choir was founded in 1970. It has mixed voices and is a non-sectarian ensemble for young people.

There are two sections – a training choir and a senior choir.
The training choir, which began in 1997, has members aged from 7-10.
The senior choir is for older members up to age 25.

What we do...

We meet every Tuesday and Thursday to rehearse. More details can be found on our other pages.

The repertoire is varied, and over the years has included the works of composers such as Mozart, Bach, Elgar, Kodaly and even some Lennon and McCartney!

As a member of the British Federation of Young Choirs the choir has had the opportunity of working under the direction of many famous conductors including Sir David Willcocks, the late Sir Charles Groves, John Rutter, Laszlo Heltay and Sir Philip Ledger, to name but a few. The choir travels the country taking part in national and international singing events, carrying with them the good name of Hartlepool.

The choir performs to support the fundraising of various charities, as well as to raise money for its own funds. The choir is a non-profit organisation.

How we are funded...

Hartlepool Youth Choir is financially supported by Hartlepool Borough Council Department of Community Services and the Hartlepool Youth Choir Parents’ Association (HYCPA) which is a registered charity (no. 514592).
